COMPUTER SCIENCE (Gr. 10, 11, 12)

The Gr. 10 course focussed on general knowledge about computers: the history of computers, practical uses of computers (word processing, spreadsheets, etc), and an introduction to computer programming with QBasic.

The Gr. 11 course specialized in the programming aspects of computers, using MacTuring software. Basic programming knowledge such as programming structures (repetition statements, conditional statements, linear statements) were introduced along with other aspects of programming.

The Gr. 12 course was an extension of the Gr. 11 course. The tools used in the programs created at this level were more complex than the programs created in grade 11; two-dimensional arrays and advanced methods of sorting were a few of the many new tools that were introduced. The majority of the course was taught with MacTuring, however Turbo Pascal was also utilized to create programs in this course.

Although my official job title was ‘Bus Boy’, I was more like a Jack of All Trades. I would wash dishes, mop floors, take food out to customers, assist the waiting staff, throw out the garbage, and clean up the tables to name a few. My experiences from working here were similar to working at Golden Dragon, the big difference is that Daybreak put more pressure on your work and required you to work faster and efficiently.

From my experiences at Golden Dragon, I learned that running a business is not an easy job, and you must have persistence and make the right decisions in order to succeed. Also, I’ve also learned to think practically as well as quickly in stressful times. However, when you’re working hectically, you were also expected to stay calm and cool, to be able to interact with the costumers.
